2012 Winemaking Adventure

Every year we join a group of Stryker friends for a wine making trip.  Brian Fouts brother and uncle provide the grapes, equipment and expertise and we provide the labor.  This year I made lunch which of course I loved!!!  This was the first year that we had to be responsible parents so we had to leave a little early, but still had just enough time to indulge in some wine.
The 2012 Red Winemakers

Bish picking grapes.  We filled buckets to haul back to the crusher.

I picked a few bunches but I mostly "documented" the event :)

Lunch.  What a stunning backdrop.

I used chalkboard vinyl to make make labels for the food.

The table cloth is oil cloth.

Stuffed sandwich.  Found this idea on interest.  I think it would be better with some cured meats mixed in.

The best cheese!  I made the cheese labels with a label maker and toothpicks and just cut the ends.

I setup a panini press next to the sandwiches and guests could add meat and cheese to customize their sandwich.

Rich chocolate cookies paired well with the red wine.

Borsin Garlic & Herb spread.

Everyone seemed to enjoy lunch.

Because when you turn 3 you need a purple, ombré, unicorn, cake!

For Reese's third birthday I made her (or maybe I made me) a purple, ombré, unicorn, cake.  I followed a few different recipes and instructions and took lots of pictures so I could either share with you (if you're not me) or remind myself later, how I made it.  I mostly uses this "How to make your own unicorn cake"  tutorial .  It was super helpful! Wednesday: I made the four layers of purple cake.  I used the Cook's Country White Layer Cake   but used almond flavoring and tons of gel food coloring, decreasing the amount for each layer.  I used an 8" round and kept the layers short since I couldn't cut the layers horizontally because they each needed to be a different colors.  I made the recipe twice and divided it each time into two pans. After the cakes cooled, I wrapped each one and put them in the freezer over night. Thursday: When I started to assemble the cake I used my twirly cake decorator and I like to tape a cake boa...
